The Power of Paint

I’ve been dreaming about a dark accent wall somewhere in our home for quite sometime now.  (Hibernation makes you think of about a billion projects you want to do in your house, believe me!)  I keep seeing so many people use the “Peppercorn” color from Sherwin Williams and how beautiful of a statement it always seems to make.  And once we added a new rug to our bedroom, I just knew that this was the room where it was meant to be!

Since our local paint shop only carries Benjamin Moore products, I had them find the equivalent to SW “Peppercorn,” which turned out to be “Gray” for BM (super creative name, huh?!)  I bought a gallon but ended up not even needing half of that for two coats.  I used the Aura line from Benjamin Moore because it has a built-in primer.  It’s a bit pricier, but I’m all about skipping steps if I can help it!

Immediately, I fell in love with the result!  Our furniture really pops now against the dark wall, and the color ties in so well with the ticking stripes in our quilt and the dark gray pattern in our rug.  It was just what this space needed to complete it.

And now that I’m sorta kinda obsessed with this amazing color and have a good amount of it left over, I want to paint the cabinet in our master bathroom.  So if you’ve got any tips on painting a pre-fab cabinet, please leave them for me in the comments down below.  Do I need to sand it down first?  Help!  Nevertheless, though, isn’t the power of paint pretty darn incredible??!

It’s beautiful! I, too, am wanting to paint an accent wall behind our bed. Speaking of bed, did you paint yours or did you purchase it like that? I would love to get brave and paint our oak bed like yours but….my husband would probably have heart failure and since I’ve already seen him through a heart attack and triple bypass surgery (true story) I will probably be good. It’s so hard some days! Meanwhile, I will work on at least painting the wall. Love your style!

Thank you so much for the sweet compliment! As for our bed, it came that way. I fell in love with it because it looks like it’s vintage.

If you paint the cabinet and want to use a primer, even tho there’s one in the paint, DO NOT USE KILZ 2! Regular Kilz is acrylic and it “grabs” the paint you put over it so it doesn’t flow. Believe me, it looks shitty. Regular Kilz is oil based and the paint flows nicely with it. Jim built the kitchen cabinets for the RV trailer we bought and we asked at Home Depot about the Kilz 2. Oh, yeah, it’ll work just fine to primer the cabinets. Don’t believe anything they tell you at HD! They don’t know anything. We sanded the cabinets down but they still look shitty.

  4. Great content! Super high-quality! Keep it up! 🙂

Where did you find the basket over the bed? Your room is gorgeous! 😍
