DIY Christmas Kissing Ball

I have always loved the idea of mistletoe, but I don’t necessarily love the way it looks.  I do, however, love the kissing balls I always see hanging at our local nursery shop during the holiday season. Unfortunately, though, they tend to be on the pricier side, which is why I decided to make my own kissing ball!

Begin by cutting a 2.5 foot strand of ribbon and loop it at the top of the ball.  Then tie a second section around the sides of the sphere and make a knot at the bottom.  Trim the edges however you’d like.

Next, poke greenery picks into the sphere to cover it.  You don’t necessarily need to go out and buy new greenery – you can use any leftover garland or wreaths that you find in your storage bins.  I ended up doing this because the stores were completely sold out of greenery!  I just took apart a wreath and used the greenery as picks.  You can also add berry picks and hot glue pinecones sporadically to the sphere so that none of the foam is showing.  (My greenery just so happened to have pinecones in it.)

Once the foam is completely covered, you might need to trim some of the greenery on the sides to maintain the rounded ball shape.  All that’s left to do now is to hang it in a doorway or an arch in your home, and then pucker up those lips!  You never know who you might meet under it!
